A study has found that a low level of zinc in your body may increase your chances of suffering from high blood pressure. Zinc is a nutrient which helps the immune system ward off bacteria trying to attack the body. 

A study conducted by the University of Wright State University in the US has found that a low level of zinc in your body may increase your chances of suffering from high blood pressure. Zinc is a nutrient which helps the immune system ward off bacteria trying to attack the body. 

According to the study, the way our kidneys excrete and reabsorb sodium in the body also affects our blood pressure levels. Zinc deficiency is a common problem affecting millions of people, especially those suffering from Type-2 diabetes or chronic kidney disease.

Zinc-rich Foods 

Zinc plays an important role in the growth and functioning of the reproductive system and your immune system. Zinc deficiency can lead to various health issues including hair loss, skin infections, etc. Here are some zinc-rich foods that can help you. 

Eggs

The yellow part of the egg known as the yolk is a rich source of zinc and can help you fight off infections and other diseases that affect your body due to the lack of zinc in your body. 

Cereals 

Fortified cereals are enough for a daily dose of zinc in your system, it is also a rich source of vitamins and minerals. Bran, whole grain and multigrain cereals are also a great source of zinc. 

Meat 

Eating meat twice a week can also compensate for the lack of zinc in your system. Some of the best choices of meat that can provide your body with enough zinc include pork, beef, lamb and chicken. But make sure you exercise after consuming such foods as they are high in cholesterol and fats. 

Pumpkin Seeds 

Consuming 100 grams of pumpkin seeds on a regular basis can fulfil the daily dose of zinc required by your body. Eat them raw to get the best of them. 

Garlic 

Garlic is one ingredient that provides the body with enough nutrients to help ward off various diseases. It has moderate levels of zinc and has high levels of manganese, vitamin B6, vitamin C and selenium.
