Wounds in Diabetics can be healed fast with low-intensity vibrations

A promising research says that diabetics can heal their wounds by exposing them to low-intensity vibrations for 30 minutes five times a week.

diabetes complications woundsAccording to a recent research, chronic wounds in patients with type 2 diabetes can be healed fast if the wound is exposed to low-intensity vibrations. The research was done as part of clinical trials on mice at the Stony Brook University in New York. The research found that wounds that were exposed to low-intensity vibrations for 30 minutes at least five times a week healed better and faster than those wounds in mice who belonged to a controlled group.

The low-intensity vibrations helped tissues near the wound to form new blood vessels; this process is in science called angiogenesis. Exposing the wound to the vibrations also led to an increased expression of pro-healing growth factors as well as signalling molecules that are referred to as chemokines.

The procedure is non-invasive in nature and does not even require one to take drugs for complete healing.

The study was published in the journal PLOS One.
