World Asthma Day is being observed across the country today. The theme for this year’s observance is ‘you can control your asthma’. Being observed with the message, this year’s campaign urges people to work together to control asthma, for a push towards its better management.
According to World Health Organisation (WHO) estimates, over 235 million people suffer from asthma worldwide. The chronic medical condition is one of the most common conditions that affect children. It occurs in all countries regardless of level of development, although more than 80 per cent of asthma deaths occur in low and lower-middle income countries.
Healthcare doesn’t offer much when it comes to cure of asthma, although appropriate management can control the disease and enable people to enjoy good quality of life. Those with persistent asthma symptoms must take long-term medication daily to control the underlying inflammation and prevent symptoms and exacerbations. Medication is not the only way to manage asthma, but each asthma patient must learn what triggers they should avoid.
