    Winter Travel Safety Tips

    Winters are a great time to travel but you must ensure to keep yourself protected from the bitter winters that can weigh you down. Dont leave anything behind in packing for which you will have to regret later.

    The key to travelling during any weather is KNOW BEFORE YOU GO.


    1.    Know your Route:


    It is not a good idea to travel without a route map, as there is always a chance you will get into difficulty. Make use of your directional sense if you get caught in sudden road closures due to an avalanche or snowing, maintain your calm.  Stay vigilant for road signage.


    2.    Stay hydrated


    Carry water and remain hydrated while you travel; according to a study even a 1-2 per cent loss of body weight can lead to fatigue; in winter conditions, you need to stay alert.


    3.    Winter Clothes


    Your winter travel clothes should include:

    • Thermal wear.
    • Polo neck t-shirts and sweaters.
    • Hand gloves.
    • Neck gaiter.
    • Zippered Jerseys
    • Mock turtleneck t-shirts
    • Boots.
    • Warm socks.
    • Snow suit if you’re travelling to an extremely cold region.


    4.    Winter travel kit

    • Keep an ice scraper, brush, blankets and flashlight.
    • Pack a nail clippers, chapstick, thermometer, pain and headache medication, allergy medication, cough suppressants, cotton washcloths, cotton balls, paper towels, bandages, band-aids, nasal drops in a convenience bag.
    • Don’t forget to pack any medical prescriptions.


    5.    Sun Protection


    In winter, the sun’s rays can cause sunburn by reflecting off the snow. It might sound like a myth, but it's true. Make sure you have adequate sunscreen protection for your skin. Carry a sunscreen with a high SPF.
