The war over clean drinking water is still heating up all over the country. While the problem of water contamination remains to be one of the most crucial health concerns in India, it is only recently, with the series of chaos, debates and discussions that it has finally dawned upon us about the ill-effects of polluted water.

Quite interestingly, one of the pertinent issues prevailing in the Indian drinking water space is not only the severe water contamination threat and depletion of water reservoirs, but lack of awareness among people about availability of water purification technology.

Drinking water

With sweltering summers coming to an end, monsoons are the most anticipated season of the year, a breather and respite from the unbearable wave of heat and the scorching sun. Although monsoons are a pleasant change, it brings along a host of diseases and infections. Infact, the presence of certain bacteria like E.coli can lead to severe gastroenteritis, diarrhea, vomiting, food poisoning and other illnesses.

Especially with monsoons being just around the corner, one can follow some basic tips to evade a spate of diseases that strike during this season. Since the market is flooded with a variety of water purifiers, the least one can do is to choose the right one that ensures the water you drink is safe and healthy.

Mere boiling of water is not enough

The fact is that boiling water is effective towards water-borne bacteria and virus but it has no effect on chlorine content and cysts, nor does it remove turbidity, organic and inorganic impurities. Also, water needs to be boiled for minimum 20 minutes on-roll for it to effectively deactivate the disease-causing micro-organisms. Secondly, most people are unaware that boiled water, when kept in an open container to cool down, is prone to re-contamination yet again with certain bacteria.

There is no one-size-fits-all technology

Several research and studies have shown that India has varying water conditions and clearly there’s not one single technology which can purify water in every region. People assume that there is one technology that can solve all water problems. The fact is that there are 17 different kinds of water conditions across India and there is not one size-fits-all solution that can be adopted to purify water. It is important to understand the water quality and accordingly decide on the purifier.

RO (Reverse Osmosis) is meant to remove certain heavy metals and contaminants which are found in ‘few’ locations, not all. If one uses RO water purification in areas where it is not required, then it leads not only to ‘demineralsed water’ but also adds to water wastage. When one uses an RO purifier where it is not exactly suited, there is wastage of 7 glasses of drinking water for one glass of drinking water. In Mumbai, UV or a UF technology water purifier will be the most suited for the water received in homes, and will provide good quality drinking water.

Purifier that retains essential minerals & vitamins

Demineralized water or low-mineral content water – in the light of the absence or substantial lack of essential minerals in it – is not considered ideal drinking water, and therefore, its regular consumption may not be providing adequate levels of some beneficial nutrients. There are range of superior and customized water solutions available in the market that are equipped with patented Mineral Cartridge & Biotron technology which magnetizes & declusters water molecules and provides more than just safe water, in other words is healthy water.

Advanced Technologies that fight new-age contaminants

Generally, water supplied from lakes, rivers, and harvested rain water has a lower concentration of TDS, whereas the water drawn from bore wells or supplied by tankers has a higher concentration of TDS and other harmful chemicals. Choose a water purifier that has the ability to remove the new-age contaminants.
Water treatment (or purification) is like any other form of treatment. One needs to know what is wrong before you treat the symptom. The solution here lies in choosing the right water purification technology to insure the health of your near and dear ones.
