    Understand Postpartum Depression- Post pregnancy, every woman is at risk of postpartum depression. Women who previously had postpartum depression or have family history of depression are at greater risk.

However the baby blues are usually mild and self-limiting. Certain factors can increase your risk of long-term depression after childbirth that is postpartum or postnatal depression.     • History of postpartum depression: Women who have had postpartum depression in previous pregnancy are at high risk of having it again.
    • Lack of family support or support from spouse.
    • Stress factors such as financial troubles, loss of job, family problems, sick newborn.
    • History of depression or depression during the current pregnancy.
    • Other mental health disorder like bipolar disorder (or manic-depression illness) also increases the risk of depression or psychotic behavior after childbirth.
    • Unplanned pregnancy, single mother.
    • Family history of mental health problem like depression or bipolar disorder.
    • Miscarriage or stillbirthalso increase the risk of postpartum depression.
    • History of severe premenstrual syndrome or premenstrual dysphoric disorder.
