Skin comprises of three layers, which are as follows:

  • The Epidermis is the outermost layer of the skin; its thickness varies as per the different parts of the body. This layer of skin is thickest at the palms and the heels, while it is thinnest at the eyelids.
  • The Dermis comprises only of living cell; in this layer you can find the sweat glands, hair follicles, nerve endings and blood capillaries.
  • The Subcutaneous Tissue is the inner most layer of the skin; it is comprised of a layer of fat and its thickness varies from one person to another. The body temperature is controlled by this layer and it also works as a protective layer for the internal organs from the external impact.
