What is the expected duration of Earache

An earache tends to continue for as long as the problem that is causing it does not go away or is not treated. Depending on the underlying medical condition, treatment is prescribed.

Pain in one or both ears can develop for several reasons and some of these may not even be related to the ear. When pain is caused by a problem in the ear, the most common reason is a blockage of the passageway between the middle ear as well as the back of the throat. This passageway is referred to as the Eustachian tube.

An earache tends to continue for as long as the problem that is causing it does not go away or is not treated. If the pain occurs because of a blocked Eustachian tube, using an over-the-counter decongestant can help to open it up. Some drugs that may be used for soothing the pain till the underlying condition is treated or goes away on its own include naproxen, ibuprofen and acetaminophen.

It is recommended that you seek the recommendation of your doctor before self-medicating drug dosages.
