Rosacea is a common skin condition that causes redness on face and often produces small, red, pus-filled bumps. It is most common in middle-aged women who have fair skin but it can occur at any age. If left untreated the rosacea tends to worsen with time. The signs and symptoms may remain from a period of weeks to months and then diminish before flaring up again. Rosacea can be mistaken for acne, an allergic reaction or other skin problems.
Although there is no cure for rosacea but the treatments can control and reduce the signs and symptoms to great extent. If there is persistent redness on the face, consult a doctor for a diagnosis and proper treatment.
Causes of Rosacea
The cause of rosacea is not known yet, but it could be due to some combination of hereditary and environmental factors.
There are number factors that can trigger rosacea by increasing blood flow to the surface of your skin. Some of these factors include:
• Hot foods or beverages
• Spicy foods
• Temperature extremes
• Stress, anger or embarrassment
• Strenuous exercise
• Hot baths or saunas
• Corticosteroids, such as prednisone
• Drugs that dilate blood vessels, including some blood pressure medications
Symptoms of Rosacea
Some common signs and symptoms of rosacea include:
Rosacea results in persistent redness in your face with swelling on the cheeks and nose.
Swollen red Bumps :
In some people rosacea can also cause bumps on the face that resemble to acne. These bumps often have pus in them.
Eye problems :
people with rosacea often experience eye dryness, irritation and swollen and reddened eyelids.
Enlarged nose :
There is a rare chance that rosacea can thicken the skin on the nose making it look bulbous.
There is no cure for rosacea but treatment is done to control and reduce the signs and symptoms. The treatment mainly consists of prescription treatments and certain lifestyle changes.
