There is no cure for obsessive compulsive disorder and there is no known way to prevent it. OCD is chronic disease which has a waxing and waning course, i.e. the person experiences periods of severity of symptoms followed by periods of improvement. Here are some ways which can make your symptoms more manageable and allow you to live a productive and fulfilling life.

Get treated: Symptoms of OCD can be managed adequately in most cases even though it is a long-term (chronic) illness with treatment. Treatment of OCD may not cure the disorder but it decreases the intensity of symptoms so that they don't interfere with your daily functioning. Experts say that most people (about 70 per cent) after treatment have significant improvement in their symptoms.  Symptoms are easier to control when treatment is started early in the course of illness. But without treatment the symptoms become more severe and may have a greater impact on your functioning and life.

Get adequate sleep: Sleep does not prevent OCD. It has been shown that adequate sleep and rest helps to keep the mood stable, makes you feel better, improves functioning of immune systems and gives the brain sufficient time to deal with running thoughts and feelings. Inadequate sleep can lead to low mood, irritability, physical health problems and worsening of many mental health problems.

Exercises regularly: Regular physical activity can boost your physical and mental well-being. Exercise has many benefits such as it improves you overall health, makes you feel more energetic, improves the strength of your bone and muscles, helps you sleep better, helps maintain body weight, and decreases stress and anxiety. Exercise is good not only for improving can your physical health and preventing diseases such as coronary artery disease, diabetes but mental health problems such as anxiety, depression, and OCD. Exercise increases the levels of certain neurochemicals in the brain called endorphins. They have been shown to improve the sense of well-being and decrease pain.
