Understanding Monthly Cycle and Ovulation Process

The chances of conception are considerably high when you are ovulating. As it is the most fertile period, you need to know when you are ovulating. Understand your menstrual cycle for this purpose. During the period, the body releases hormones which stimulate growth of eggs within follicles present in ovaries. Between the 7th and 11th day of your cycle, hormones starts preparing uterus lining for implantation of an egg. Women are most fertile during this period and during ovulation, which occurs between 11th and 15th day after the last cycle. To keep a tab on ovulation days, one can use ovulation calculator.

    Additions to your diet

There are certain foods which naturally boost fertility and improve one’s chances of conception. Nuts, seeds and whole grains have fertility enhancing properties. In addition, a woman seeking to get pregnant needs to increase her intake of calcium and zinc sources. Pumpkin seeds are a rich source of zinc and help in ovulation. Green veggies and fruits, such as banana and pineapple add manganese to your diet, and this significantly improves your fertility. Fats in the diet should be healthy. To enhance fertility, olive oil, salmon and walnut (sources of omega-3 acids) and vegetable protein, such as soy should be incorporated in diet.

    Age also matters

Fertility of a woman decreases after reaching 30. Chances of a woman having a healthy pregnancy and safe childbirth drop significantly after 30. She becomes more prone to pregnancy and childbirth complications, such as gestational diabetes and premature delivery. The age factor applies to men as well, as with increasing age their sperm count goes down.

Delayed pregnancy could be due to having sex in positions which do not let sperm reach the egg easily. If your doctor has confirmed that you have no sex problems, think about changing your positions. Positions, such as man on top (missionary position), rear entry (popularly known as doggy style) and lying side by side can surely help a woman conceive soon. Avoid penetration in positions in which woman is on the top. Remember to have sex regularly, it is most important of all!

    Hold the sperm for longer

After intercourse, a woman should keep lying on her back for at least 15-20 minutes. Better if she raises her lower back with a pillow placed under her hips. The slight upwards tilt of pelvis helps to keep the sperm stay in for longer.

Talking to a gynaecologist would help you further to conceive without much delay.
