Headache-proof your home

    Headache-proof your home

Can't figure out the cause of your headache? Indoor allergens or gizmos can be the reasons of your headache. Try these strategies to make home headache-proof zone.

If home is synonymous with peace and comfort for you, it may be synonymous with headache for others. Even people, who are usually not prone to pain, can have a headache even at the thought of getting home.

    headache triggers

Before you hold your head homage for the headache, cut its frequency by cleaning the triggers that hold up in your house. Here are ways you can give your home a make-over and make it a headache-free zone.

    Get rid of allergens

Almost all homes have 6 or more detectable allergens inside. If you are sensitive to allergens and suffer from allergies frequently, you are susceptible to headaches more than a healthy person, who may have more allergens in his or her home compared with your home. The irritants that hide behind dust mold inflame the nasal passages by virtue of which a pain-signalling chemical gets released thereby, causing headache.

Besides, congestion that is related to allergy can put excessive pressure on the nasal passages. To wipe these irritants away, invest in an air purifier and vacuum with HEPA filters. HEPA filters remove about 99 percent of allergens that hang in the air.

    Clear the pollutants

If you think home is clean and clear of pollutants compared with outside, you are wrong. Believe it or not, the quality of air indoors is much worse than it is outdoors because of lack of adequate ventilation. In fact, masking the odour that stays indoors with air fresheners and scented candles makes it even worse because most of these products contain the same organic compounds that exist in floor varnish, paint fumes etc. To cut down on allergies due to these pollutants, crack the windows regularly and invest in nontoxic and unscented cleaners.

    Put gadgets/gizmos away

The white glow from gizmos such as laptops, tablets etc over stimulate the brain. Besides, a bad posture while using laptop also has negative impact on the body. It can crunch the neck muscles and send pain signals into the brain. Adjust the brightness of the gizmo’s screen to keep them from bothering your brain. If you do not wish to reduce the brightness, invest in a glare-reducing filter for the computer, laptop or tablet’s monitor. Alternatively, you can take a break every 20 minutes to relax the muscles and thereby, reduce the probability of a headache. Avoid using the gizmos when you already have a headache as that may worsen it.
