The dairy conundrum: Why isn't dairy good for humans

The healthy glass of milk that we are so accustomed to may not be as healthy as it may seem. Here are some reasons on why we are saying so.

The cry of your parent asking you to gulp down a glass of fresh milk still rings in your ears for sure, but did you know that all that milk drinking could have actually put your health in danger?

We have news for you and it says that dairy if terrible for your health, and it is in no way the perfect food for your health. In fact, cow’s so-called nutritious milk is only intended for calves and not for us humans. The claim that milk is the cornerstone of any nutritious food is simply hogwash. The truth is that humans are not designed to drink any milk except their own and that too only during infancy. By consuming dairy products we flatter ourselves by patting on our own backs, thinking that we are one step closer to becoming a healthy person. Truth is that the milk, cheese, yogurt, and the ice cream do not do you any good.

Acid forming

The human body likes to maintain a neutral pH balance which means that there should not be too much acidity or too much alkalinity. Milk that we drink like most animal products is considered to be an acid forming food. This means that when you consume dairy your body must compensate for the increased acidity in order to restore a neutral pH balance.
This is done when your body starts pulling alkaline reserves that it keeps in the form of calcium, magnesium and potassium stored in the bones. This pulling of the reserves weakens the bones which could lead t fractures!

Highly inflammatory

One of the most inflammatory foods in our modern diet only second to gluten is dairy foods. This causes inflammation in a large percentage of  the population and results in bloating, gas, constipation, and diarrhea. The two components which are believed to be causing the trouble for people are sugar and protein. Those who are lactose intolerant tends to produce the lactase enzyme and this is required to break down lactose which is basically a sugar found in milk causing people to have digestive issues. But what about those who are not lactose intolerant, why do they have problems too? The answer is the two types of protein found in dairy, namely casein and whey. Casein is similar to gluten in its molecular structure and 50% of people who are gluten intolerant are casein intolerant as well.

Cardiovascular disease

When you consume dairy products such as cheese, ice cream, milk, butter, yogurt and all the rest of it you are contributing to amounts of cholesterol and fat to your diet. When you have a high-fat diet you increase the risk of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease. When you have low-fat vegetarian diet that will help to eliminate dairy products along with exercise, quitting smoking, and stress management you can prevent a heart disease and in fact may as well reverse it. There are non-fat dairy products that are available in the market too.

Vitamin D toxicity

By consuming milk you may not be providing a consistent and reliable source of vitamin D in your diet. Research has found significant variation in vitamin D content along with some samplings which have had as much as 500 times the indicated level. Others had little or none at all. When you have too much of vitamin D then you risk toxicity and this may result in an excess in the levels of calcium in the blood and also in the urine. Increased aluminium in the human body and calcium deposits in soft tissue is also a probability.

It is pretty safe to conclude that milk and dairy products are not exactly the nutritious diet you are looking for. You could either forget all about dairy or indulge only once in a blue moon. Consume a healthy diet of grains, fruits, vegetables, legumes, and foods such as cereals and juices.
