The Tata group is now preparing itself to join hands with the healthcare sector in improving it.
The chairman emeritus of Tata group, Ratan Tata has now decided to put his hands into improving maternal as well as child health care in a significant way. With Rajasthan being the launching pad, the chief minister of the state, Vasundhara Raje met the chairman in Jaipur.
Tata was accompanied by Ashok Alexander, who was formerly associated with the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation as well as two other experts. Alexander is a Tata Trust official; he gave a one-hour presentation before Raje at the meeting. Raje was accompanied by health minister of state Rajendra Rathore and chief secretary Rajiv Mehrishi.
Once the meeting was over, Raje tweeted, “Delighted to meet Ratan Tata & Ashok Alexander with the agenda of transforming maternal and child health care scenario in Rajasthan. I look forward to a relationship that will strengthen the health sector and in better way."
Ratan Tata also made it clear that if the Rajasthan model works and does well, he will take it to other states as well. “Tata Trust has special desire to work for mother and child health sector in different states, and this would be first beginning in Rajasthan, Tata said.
Alexander added that,” In persuasion with the Wednesday's interface, a pilot project would be taken up by the Tata Trust in few select district in Rajasthan to check high maternal and infant mortality rate”.
Raje had also appraised Tata and said that if the government as well as the private sector work together in improving the health sector, the millennium development goal can be achieved.
Tata had also visited the manufacturing facility of the famous Jaipur Foot at the world’s largest organisation that exists for handicapped called Bhagwan Mahaveer Viklang Sahayata Samiti. BMVSS is being funded by Sir Dorabju Tata Trust in providing people artificial limbs as well as tricycles for the handicapped.
