Some women also experience harmless cramping in the lower pelvic area or lower back during pregnancy. This is mostly followed by an orgasm.

Round Ligament Pain

Round ligament pain is another feeling of cramping during pregnancy. As the uterus grows, the ligaments surrounding it get stretched. However, like the muscles, these ligaments are also capable of contracting and relaxing but they can cause a cramping sensation for a few minutes. When women change their body position, the ligaments also move for supporting the womb, thus causing cramps.

Leg Cramps

Leg cramps may start bothering you during the second trimester of your pregnancy. Many women report that these cramping become severe as the pregnancy progresses. Leg cramping is probably noticed more at night. However, they can also occur during the day.

Short term achiness in the abdomen is absolutely normal during pregnancy but consult your doctor if you feel that the condition is becoming severe.

Mild cramping is absolutely common but you need to worry if it is accompanied by other problems such as:

  • Bleeding, especially bright red spots
  • Fever and chills
  • Vaginal discharge

  • Severe cramping during early pregnancy can even be the sign of an impending miscarriage. Immediately contact a physician if you are experiencing this
