Summer sun is a boon for people suffering from psoriasis, claims dermatologist.
A dermatologist, Julie Moore, at the Gottlieb Memorial Hospital, part of Loyola University Health System, claims that exposure to the sun could become one of the best treatments for psoriasis.
She said that twenty to thirty minutes can help psoriasis sufferers improve the skin. She said that the patients must be encouraged to sit under sun for a period of 10 to 20 minutes.
Psoriasis is believed to be caused when the immune system mistakes normal skin cells for pathogens and reacts by creating an overproduction of skin cells. One of the most prevalent autoimmune diseases worldwide, there is no cure for psoriasis so far. The chronic condition flares up and calms down due to stress, illness and unknown factors.
According to the Moore, psoriasis is much more than a cosmetic concern; it is often painful, difficult to heal and can be disfiguring.
