Your dieting dreams have now been shaken, because the diet soda that you drink so religiously is not all that healthy after all. Here is a look at what a study had to say about it.
Those who once were die hard flavoured soda fans have something new to look forward to in recent times. Popular culture has pushed aside the likes of Coca Cola and has embraced their diet version. Because apparently, diet soda is the next best thing to a session in gym; but sadly in reality, the word diet is playing the fool with you.
Our collective consciousness is being abused by the word that stands bold on our soda bottles, it says “Diet”. The word diet is a consumer’s delight, it is that wonder of wonders which will make you look like your movie god and pop stars. So why not, why shouldn’t I, a normal human being who is depressed over his poor physical fitness and bad looks, not pop a soda that says diet? Well, we are here to tell you the why-s and the how-s, but before getting into any intricate detail about your favourite drink, here is something we would like to tell you in bold, throw the diet soda can away, it is doing you no good.
The Diet Fad
According to the result of findings that was presented by the American College of Cardiology 2014 Scientific Sessions, your diet sodas are likely to increase the risk of a heart disease and you may eventually meet your end upon meeting a cardiovascular disaster. That is to say that your diet soda is basically destroying your cardiovascular health and a heart attack is very eminent.
These results were actually based on an observational study of women who were post their menopause and those who guzzled two or more 355 ml of diet sodas per day. This was in comparison to those who didn’t drink sodas and in fact they had a 30 percent increased chance of experiencing a cardiovascular event like a heart attack. There was also a 50 percent rise in the risk of dying from a cardiovascular disease.
The researchers speculate that sweetened sodas and fruit drinks mat cause an increase in desire for sugar sweetened and energy based beverages due to a disruption in the normal feedback mechanisms. It could also be that those drinking diet sodas live an unhealthy lifestyle and have a poor diet.
But all this is definitely contributing to the evidence that those artificially sweetened drinks that are the cornerstone of any dieting regimen are definitely not helping your health in anyway. They are therefore not what a healthy diet would comprise of.
Other Possible Side Effects
While you may not be getting any fatter with diet sodas, there are many other side effects of such drinks that may cause you to think twice. After all you might not be as desirable as your popular culture idol with a host of physical diseases to wreck havoc in you. Here are some other problems that you may face when embarking on a diet drink journey.
A Nurses’ Health Study that included 3,256 women found that there could be a 30 percent drop in kidney function for participants who drank two or more servings of diet soda every day.
Well, here it is for you, the bad news! A University of Texas study conducted in 2005 said that there is a 57.1 percent risk of obesity for those who are drinking more than two daily servings of a diet soda. This is because a diet drink would give you a free pass to eat anything else that would eventually lead to weight gain.
Tooth Enamel Damage
Your diet soda is not very friendly with your tooth enamel because sugar and acid create the problem here. Acid can have a bad impact on your tooth enamel and diet soda contributes to just that.
Your diet soda is causing you bone loss and this is basically because the phosphoric acid in the soda causing your calcium in your bloodstream to be excreted more quickly than the normal urine.
Here is a sound piece of advice for you. Throw your diet cans away and embrace natural fruit juice, embrace a healthy diet and embrace daily exercises; your movie gods would be pleased.
