If you thought you needed to avoid cheese to control your diabetes, think again. A new study has claimed that having two slices of cheese a day can keep diabetes in check. Despite the current health guidelines against dairy products as they are known to cause the problem of being overweight leading to diabetes, the research says that limiting your intake to two slices of cheese a day can help in reducing the risk of the disease by 12 per cent.

In the study, researchers studied the diets of 16800 healthy adults along with 12400 patients of type 2 diabetes. These were from eight European countries including UK. The finding of the study was that those who eat 55 grams of cheese daily, which is close to two slices, have a reduced risk of type 2 diabetes.

The research also included the same for yoghurt and the finding was identical. The risk of diabetes fell in people who consumed 55 grams of yoghurt daily. This is in contrast to the advice based on National Health Survey of UK that having too much of dairy can aggravate the condition of diabetics, as they are high in saturated fats.
