When you are pregnant and working, you need to be more careful to safely work through the nine months of conception, dismantling the thought that pregnancy is a halt in your career.

Experts suggest that pregnant women can work till the sixth month of their pregnancy. But, they need to be more attentive towards their physical as well as mental and emotional health during this time.

When you are pregnant, you will have to adjust some of your work habits and make slight changes to your schedule to stay safe and comfortable at the office. These changes will make it a more comfortable experience for you and also for the co-workers.


#1. Eat a Healthful Diet

A balanced diet is a must for pregnant women. If you are working during pregnancy then it becomes even more important to eat right. Owing to your busy schedules most of you are seen to overlook the importance of eating right and most importantly eating nutritious foods. Remember that you need to keep up your energy level to cope with both i.e. your work and pregnancy. Increase intake of carbohydrates and proteins in your diet. A health pregnancy diet comprises one of the most important pregnancy tips you must alwats stick to. Avoid fatty foods at all costs.                                      


#2. Inform your Boss/Colleagues

Inform your immediate boss about your pregnancy. Some women prefer to break the news in the initial stage of their pregnancy while others wait till the second trimester. Decide when you will inform your boss about your pregnancy. It is always wise to tell your boss before the pregnancy symptoms show up. It is ethical to inform your boss even if you are planning to stop working after your baby then it will give your boss time to find your replacement.                

#3. Wear Comfortable Clothes

Your clothes must be loose so that they don’t put pressure on the foetus. Loosely fitting clothes will also facilitate you to breathe well. Working during pregnancy can itself make one uncomfortable and therefore, if you have to stay productive and healthy on the job, make sure that you try and alleviate common pregnancy discomforts and the first step to doing that is wearing comfortable clothes.


#4. Keep Expectations Low

Don’t expect yourself to perform in the same manner as you used to before pregnancy. If your job is very demanding, ask your boss to temporarily transfer you to a less demanding area of your work. You can even request to work part time as per your convenience. If your job requires exposure to harmful chemicals, then immediately take the precaution.


#5. Know your Rights

It is very important to know your rights. Ask about the company’s maternity policies. If you think that the leaves are not sufficient, talk to your supervisor about it.


#6. Take Breaks

Make sure that you walk at regular intervals or you can even perform some stretching exercises. This will keep check on faulty blood circulation and prevent problem of swollen feet and back ache.


#7. Munch on Healthful Snacks

Make sure that you keep on munching healthy snacks to avoid feeling nauseated during work. Mini meals comprising salads and fresh fruits may be taken.


#8. Drink Plenty of Fluids

If you do not drink enough fluids, you are likely to get more nausea attacks than expected. Keep a bottle of water handy in your work area or at your desk so you can take sips throughout the day and keep yourself hydrated.


#9. Keep the Fitness Routine Going

It may be wise to think that exercise is the last thing to do when you are pregnant, but it is important to keep the energy level high. This is especially for women who sit at their desk for long hours. You may take a walk or join prenatal fintess class, but only if your health care provider approves of it.


#10. Go Early to Bed

Make sure that you sleep for at least seven to nine hours every night. Resting on either sides will improve the flow of blood to your baby and help you prevent the swelling. To get extra comfort, place pillows between your legs and under the belly.

If you oblige to these pregnancy tips and keep them handy, you will sail through the 9 months just fine.
