Pain free Surgical Tapes that Peel off Painlessly

The researchers at the Brigham and Women’s Hospital (BWH) have invented a quick-release surgical tapes that peel-off painlessly. The medical tape has the strong adhesion properties, similar to other surgical tapes, but it can be removed without causing any discomfort to the patient.

The tape attains a strong adhesion when securing medical devices to skin, owing to its three-layer design approach. The three-layer design also enables its quick-release off skin. After the backing is peeled off, the remaining adhesive left on the skin is safely rolled off with a finger, utilising a push and roll technique.

The medical tape was developed as the researches considered the need and requirements for a new neonatal adhesive based on national surveys of neonatal clinicians. Earlier, the commercial medical tapes were best known for keeping medical devices attached to the skin, but none offered prevention of skin tissue tearing.
