Moksha yoga poses: moksha yoga is a modern yogic form that includes a series of poses.
Moksha yoga is a modern pranayam technique that is ideal for beginners. The pranayam aims to tone the body muscles while correcting one’s posture. The extended moksha yoga program helps practitioners work on their overall health by learning and understanding 40 postures that are performed in a hot room. The literary meaning of moksha in Sanskrit is freedom, liberation and enlightenment, which is the ultimate objective of the yogic practice.
The yogic practice begins with savasana and ends with the same. The initial step to begin the yoga practice is to be willing to practice the yoga form. Thereafter, one may move into the standing posture to warm up. A floor sequence is followed after the warm up session, which includes postures that work on spine, upper body and hips.
Savasana: Moksha yoga practice begins and ends with savasana. To practice, lie on your back. Let your legs and arms fall freely to the side. Close your eyes and breathe deeply.
Standing Poses: Savasana is followed by a standing pose, which may be a forward bending pose, triangle pose, tree pose, warrior pose, eagle pose, dancer's pose, powerful pose, prayer twist, runner's lunge and dog pose. This pose assures strength and balance.
Seated Poses: Some of the seated poses practiced in moksha yoga are back bends, twists and leg and hip stretches.
Lying Down Pose: Similar to savasana, there are few other lying postures in the moksha yoga program. These poses include wind relieving pose, hip pose, needle pose, cobra pose and bridge pose.
