Lifestyle Changes can Save Millions from Diabetes

Lifestyle changes, combined with stopping smoking and regular checks on blood pressure and glucose levels, wards off diabetes risk.

An extensive review of scientific evidence concluded that diet and exercise are vital for staving off diabetes, which currently has plagued 347 million people worldwide (courtesy - WHO).

diabetes lifestyleA research team at the University of Alberta, Canada, said that combined with stopping smoking and regular checks on blood pressure and glucose levels, type 2 diabetes is preventable. Previously, the studies have advocated losing weight, eating more fruit/vegetables and regular exercises to slash the chance of developing Type 2. This one suggests that people at risk of developing diabetes can prevent the disease with simple lifestyle changes.

Dr Matthew Hobbs, head of the research, said that it’s particularly important for people who are already at high risk to talk to their GP to make the diet and lifestyle changes that can help.
