Both jam and jelly are made from fruit mixtures with sugar and pectin. But do you know that most people find these two to be the same? Many people don't know the difference between jelly and jam (and which is more healthy).   • Jelly: Jelly is made from fruit or vegetable juices. They are characterized by their firm texture and a clear appearance that in themselves sets them apart from the rest of the spreading. At the same time, the juice is extracted by boiling until the pieces of fruit become soft, and it is used in making jelly. After the fruit race is removed, the peels and pulp are separated through a juicer by straining them with a jelly bag or cheesecloth. Then jelly is prepared by adding pectin to it. On the other hand, artificial pectin is usually made from citrus fruits and apples but is sold both in powder and liquid form.

Nutritional values of jams and jellies

The nutritional values of jelly and jam are almost the same. Both spreads contain about 48 to 54 per cent sugar and provide the same amount of macronutrients. At the same time, the difference in its mineral and vitamin compositions depends on the percentage of pectin added and the types of fruits used. For example, pectin added to these may contain vitamin C, which may add heat-sensitive nutrients (which may not be needed by everyone).

  • Jam or jelly: Which is more healthy? Jams and jellies have almost the same nutritional value, fruit flavour and diffused texture. Thus, you can use them interchangeably. At the same time, some studies have analyzed the nutritional profile of jams after nine months in storage and have not seen any significant loss in their antioxidant content. Therefore, jam can provide a source of antioxidants when fresh fruit is not available. In such a situation, the jam is a better option than jelly.
  • How are jam and jelly different from each other? Both jelly and jam are made from the same material. They are made from fruit, sugar, water, pectin and lemon juice. Pectin forms a gel when mixed with an acid and is widely used in the food industry to provide texture to products derived from fruits and vegetables.
