Asthma is caused by numerous triggering factors. By identifying these factors you can control the occurrence and severity of an asthma attack.

Asthma is a breathing disorder which occurs as a result of inflammation in lungs. There are many factors which initiate an attack of asthma. These factors are called asthma triggers.

If a person is suffering from asthma, he should know about the reasons that can trigger an asthma attack. It occurs when these triggers cause inflammation in the bronchial areas resulting in irritation. By identifying your asthma triggers, you can control your asthma fairly well.

    Asthma triggers

    Allergens

People being allergic to something are very prone to develop asthma. The immune system of such people develops automatic immune responses when they come in contact with the allergens. Due to this they may develop skin rashes, skin redness, sneezing, watery eyes and even breathing difficulty. These allergens sometimes trigger an asthma attack. Dust, bugs, cold, pollen, some food items such as eggs, cheese, vegetables and even cosmetics can trigger allergies and asthma.

Sometimes a mild allergic reaction can lead to severe form of asthma attack called the anaphylactic attack. Generally smoke, dust, perfumes and chemicals are the agents which cause nasal irritation, resulting in sneezing and eventually to an asthma attack. These substances cause inflammation of the nasal passage, the bronchial tubes and the lungs. These substances don’t trigger any immune response, but cause swelling and bronchial dilation, thereby developing an anaphylactic shock.

    Cold and Flu

A person having asthma is very sensitive to cold whichalso causes narrowing of the air passages. So, if a person having asthma develops cold, it acts as a stimulant to initiate an asthma attack. So a person having asthma should protect him/her from cold.
