Cradle cap is regularly seen in new born babies; it is caused by an imbalance of maternal hormones passed to the newborn at birth. This typically causes the oil glands on the forehead or the top of the head to become overactive. Cradle cap appears as a yellowish, scaly lesion. It does not cause any discomfort to your baby. Read on to know how to treat cradle cap.

  • Brush your baby’s hair gently with a hair brush (one designed for babies). Brush thoroughly from front to back about three to four times a day - about ten strokes each time.
  • Wash your baby’s head daily - even if you don’t bathe him daily - using a mild shampoo. Apply thoroughly on the cradle cap but avoid scratching it as it can cause bleeding. Dry the hair thoroughly after rinsing and then brush out loose flakes.
  • Do not apply oil or lotion on cradle cap. It can aggravate it and draw out its presence.
