How to handle teething pain in infants?

The first tooth of the baby is an important milestone. Teething in most children is painless and easy. But in some cases it can be painful and therefore becomes a must-be-forgotten experience. But before attributing your child’s crying or other symptoms to teething, make sure  that there is no other problem. Listed below are few ways that can soothe your baby’s teething pain:

  • Give them teething aid items (such as a wet washcloth, teething rings), teething biscuits can decrease the irritation.
  • Massage or rub baby's gums soothes the gums
  • If the baby cries relentlessly, you can give them medicines such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen. But consult your doctor before giving medications.
  • You may perhaps apply teething gels and give teething tablets (but most pediatricians do not recommend teething gels and teething tablets). So, it’s better to consult a doctor.

Discuss with a pediatrician if your child cries excessively or has some other persistent symptoms that you think are due to teething (as you can be wrong and your child may actually be having a serious problem).
