How does Hyperthyroidism affect Fertility?

How does Hyperthyroidism affect Fertility- Infertility is a direct effect of hyperthyroidism, which though takes time to be treated, can be treated with medication.

How does Hyperthyroidism affect FertilityHyperthyroidism is a medical condition ascribed by an overproduction of the hormones thyroxine and triiodothyronine. An overwhelming affect overactive thyroid has on the patient is infertility, shortening a hyperthyroid patient’s ability to reproduce or contribute to the process of procreation. If you are a hyperthyroid patient willing to have a baby, do not be consumed by the assumption that you will probably never be a parent. There is still hope and that lies in knowing what causes the overproduced thyroxin/triiodothyronine to prick fertility.

Hyperthyroidism’s affect on Male Fertility

Premature ejaculation: As is well known, the most common reason why men experience premature ejaculation is an endocrine disorder or disease, such as diabetes and thyroid disease. While there has been no research on exactly what connects hyperthyroidism to premature ejaculation, it has been said that just as a hyperactive thyroid gland speeds up the functioning of the body’s systems, it also brings the act of sexual intercourse to an end too soon.

Low libido: hyperthyroidism causes one to lose energy and weight. A hyperthyroid patient is inevitably fatigued even when he/she may not have done enough manual work. It is this feeling of tiredness that puts one off sex, causing libido to nosedive. This condition can, however, be reversed or treated with the help of medication.

Hyperthyroidism’s affect on Female Fertility

Sexual dysfunction: This is more indirect than a direct consequence of hyperthyroidism. Because hyperthyroidism causes a person to be fatigued most of the day, a female is likely to lose interest in sex. This thereby, decreases the chances of conception. Even when a female tries to have sex in lieu of keeping the sex life of her partner satisfied, her vagina fails to provide natural lubrication before sexual intercourse, making the experience unbearably painful.

Irregular menstrual cycles: Anovulation or the condition in which a woman does not release an egg is common in hyperthyroidism. In anovulation, a woman misses her periods often. It is also possible for a woman to menstruate even without ovulating. Since the sperm has nothing to fertilise in the absence of an egg, conception does not take place.

To not be completely infertile when suffering from hyperthyroidism, it is important to identify the symptoms of the disease and report any unusual changes in the body to a doctor. Infertility due to hyperthyroidism can be addressed and resolved on time if it is reported right in its infancy.
