In a ground breaking study a baby born with AIDS was found to be showing no active infection despite putting a stop to medications.
In a new development doctors have revealed that they may have been successful in putting HIV in remission in a Mississippi baby born with the AIDS virus. This new report on that case by the New England Journal of Medicine said that the girl who was infected in the womb was treated unusually aggressively.
The baby has shown no active infection despite stopping AIDS medicine about 18 months ago, was reported by the Huffington Post.
Dr. Katherine Luzuriaga, an AIDS expert at the University of Massachusetts said that they were cautious and that is why is calling it a remission and not a cure as at this point in time this development has been clouded with uncertainty. They do not have any proof as to how much time is needed to declare someone free of HIV infection which has been feared to be a permanent disease.
