Types of Milk

Based on its processing, milk can be categorized into various types. Pasteurized, homogenized, whole, toned and double toned are some of the types in which milk can be broadly categorized.

The Key Difference

The basic difference between toned and full cream milk is that while the former is a mixture of skim powdered milk and water mixed in whole buffalo milk, the latter is whole milk from which the cream is not removed.

Toned Milk:The Process

In order to decrease the fat content of milk, it is made by mixing skim powder milk and water which is then added in buffalo milk. In toned milk, the fat content is removed only once. While retaining its nutrition which is comparable with that of fresh cow milk, the toned milk only contains 3.0 percent of fat.

Full Cream Milk:The Process

While processing full cream milk, also known as whole milk, the cream is not removed. Besides, the milk is also homogenized. As the milk contains 3.5 per cent of milk fat, it is advisable for children, teenagers and body builders to consume it. The milk has a thick consistency and tastes better.

Calories Per Glass

While you make a choice between toned and full cream milk, what you must consider is the calorie content of the milk per glass. While a glass of toned milk contains 120 calories, a glass of full cream milk has 148 calories.

Usefulness

People who wish to reduce their fat intake without affecting the calcium consumption can switch to toned milk. However, for malnourished children and pregnant women, full cream milk can be highly beneficial.

Cholesterol Level

If you are suffering from high cholesterol levels or are at a higher risk of developing high cholesterol in your body, toned milk should be your choice. Full cream milk can be hazardous due to its high cholesterol content.
