How to Make Homemade Hair Conditioner

Worried about your dull and dry hair but still don't trust the chemical based hair conditioners? These natural conditioners can be prepared at home as and when you need them, allowing you to get nicer hair without any risk of damage.

Your hair care regime can't be complete without a decent hair conditioner, however the chemicals and harsh substances present in commercial hair conditioners may worsen your hair's condition. Yoghurt is one of those healthy food items that act as a wonderful moisturizing agent which is why it can also be used as a homemade hair conditioner. Take about four tablespoonfuls of yoghurt, three tablespoonfuls of base oil such as olive oil and a few drops of an essential oil with fragrance to remove yoghurt’s scent. Mix the ingredients in a bowl and your conditioner is ready to use. Apply it on your hair avoiding the scalp area, leaving it for about ten minutes before rinsing it with water and washing out with shampoo.  It will make your hair shiny, silky and smooth. Honey has excellent moisturizing qualities that retain the moisture of the hair. All you need to make homemade hair conditioner with honey is a cupful of honey along with a half a cupful of coconut oil or olive oil. Mix the two and apply few tablespoonfuls of this mixture on your hair. Cover your hair with a shower cap and leave the mixture on for at least 30 minutes. Coconut Milk

Another fantastic homemade hair conditioner can be prepared from coconut milk to give your hair a healthy and moisturizing boost. Take a cupful of coconut milk and an equal amount of oil such olive oil or avocado oil. Make a mixture by blending the two and finally apply it on your scalp. Egg homemade conditioners are also excellent for dry and damaged hair. To make your own fantastic homemade hair conditioner using egg, whisk together a mixture of one egg yolk, three tablespoonfuls of olive oil and an essential oil like peppermint or rosemary to remove the scent of the egg. Shea Butter

Shea butter can be good for your split ends, making your hair thick and beautiful. Take about 1 cupful of shea butter, ½ cupful olive oil and 1 teaspoonful of vitamin E oil. Heat shea butter in a pan to melt it and add the olive oil and vitamin E oil to the mixture. You can also add a little fragrance oil and allow the mixture to cool for an hour, however this doesn’t allow it to set. Move the mixture into an air-tight container. Coconut Oil

Coconut oil can make your hair not only smell nice, but also appear better. Take a cupful of water, two teaspoonfuls of coconut oil and the yolk of an egg. Mayonnaise can make a wonderful hair conditioner. Massage mayonnaise into hair and cover your hair with a shower cap for 30 minutes. Rinse with warm water and shampoo. You can also rinse it again with vinegar to remove any residual greasiness. Image Courtesy: Getty


Take 2 or 3 ripe bananas and puree them. Apply the banana puree on to your hair from the roots to the tips. Banana puree will make your hair smooth and soft. Leave the puree on for about15 minutes and thoroughly rinse and shampoo your hair. Image Courtesy: Getty
