Coughs can get really irritating and painful at times. They may hit you in the face when you are in the middle of an important presentation, making you wish they would stop hurting your throat. Although, a wet cough may not go away in the blink of an eye, its lifetime can be shortened easily without drilling a hole in your pocket. Spending money on a cough syrup is not the only way. You can rely on these effective home remedies for wet cough.

Drink plenty of fluids

While there are several homemade remedies for wet cough, nothing works like water. Drinking plenty of water or other fluids helps in flushing out the infection from the system. Moreover, drinking fluids will not only keep your body hydrated, but it will also loosen the phlegm. It is easy to remove phlegm when it is loose. So, keep drinking water throughout the day.

Lemon

Lemon has some amazing antibiotic and antioxidant properties that can bring the phlegm out in a jiffy. Squeeze a few drops of lemon in a cupful of hot water and drink it sip by sip. For best results, drink this solution on a regular basis.

Gargle with salt water

Gargling salt water at regular intervals throughout the day can make the mucus thin, thereby loosening the nasal congestion.  Take one tablespoonful of salt in a cupful of lukewarm water and add a little baking soda to it. Gargle this mixture thrice a day with to cure your cough.

Mustard seed

Mustard seed contains sulphur that can stimulate the flow of mucus.  All you have to do is take one teaspoonful of mustard seeds and put them in a cupful of warm water. Now drink this solution to get rid of wet cough.

Honey

Honey is another effective home remedy for wet cough as it loosens the mucus. Besides, it acts an anti-inflammatory agent too.

Pepper

Consumption of pepper stimulates flow of mucus, thereby clearing the nasal passages of any blockages that could worsen wet cough. Take one teaspoonful of black pepper and 1 tablespoonful of honey and prepare a paste. Now add some water and boil the solution for a few minutes. Once the solution cools down, drink it sip by sip at regular intervals throughout the day. Another method to use pepper as a natural wet cough treatment is by heating black pepper. Inhaling the fumes from heated pepper would stimulate the sinuses.

Eat mashed almonds

You may wonder how almonds can help in treating coughs. Well, you will be surprised to know that cough and its symptoms can be relieved by regular consumption of almonds. All you have to do is soak some almonds in water at night. Prepare a coarse paste by peeling and grinding them the next morning. Add some sugar and butter to the paste.
