Fight Foot Odour with these Home Remedies

Getting rid of the annoying foot odour was never so easy. Some remedies which can be readily available to you at home can effectively fight the odour and give you fresh smelling feet even after you have spent a long day wearing shoes.

Save yourself the Embarrassment

Do you have to think twice before removing your shoes in public or at home? Is your foot odour giving you embarrassing moments? Food odour, technically known as bromhidrosis, can put you in awkward situations when you have to take off your shoes while sitting with someone. This occurs when sweat accumulated on your feet is not able to evaporate because you are wearing socks or shoes. Your skin bacteria feeds on the sweat and leading to a foul smell. But to your rescue, there are many convenient home remedies which will help you fight the irritating smell. Here is a list:

Baking Soda

Sodium bicarbonate or baking soda can help you in neutralizing the pH level of sweat in turn reducing the bacteria. Put some baking soda in your socks or shoes before wearing them or you can also put your feet in a bucket filled with warm water and baking soda every night.

Lavender Oil

This aromatic oil very effiectively kills bacteria feeding on your sweat. Mix few drops of lavender oil in warm water and soak your feet in it for some time. For best results, do this twice daily.

Alum consists of astringent and antiseptic properties which curbs the growth of bacteria on feet. Add a teaspoon of alum powder to warm water and wash your feet with it. After 15-20 minutes, sprinkle some alum powder on dried feet. Follow this religiously at least once a day.

Epsom Salt

Epsom salt can also fight foot odour effectively. Add a teaspoon of Epsom salt to warm water and soak your feet in it for 15 minutes. Follow this technique before you go to sleep.

Black Tea

Black tea contains tannic acid which kills the odour producing bacteria. It closes the pores on your feet which reduces the production of sweat on your feet. In 3 cups of water, add 2 tea bags. Pour half a bucket of cold water in the solution and soak your feet for 20 minutes.

Add vinegar in hot water and soak your feet in it for 5-10 minutes. Wash your feet with soap and dry them completely.

Spray the disinfectant inside your shoes or if you have it in powder form sprinkle it in the shoes and wait till the powder disappears. This will kill the odour producing bacteria on your feet.

Olive Oil

Rub olive oil on your feet and cover your feet with socks. Follow this remedy every night before you go to sleep.

The tannic acid present in sage absorbs the odour present in your shoe completely and leaves behind an aromatic smell. Also, you can soak your feet in sage tea for 15 minutes or have a cup of sage tea every night before going off to sleep.

Ginger Root

Make a thick paste using ginger root and add a hot cup of water to it. Leave the mixture for 10-15 minutes and strain in it later. Massage your feet with the mixture every night before going to sleep.
