Natural Ways to Cure Symptoms

Infection in the ear is usually caused by bacteria and viruses in the middle of the ear. Besides, some other causes and factors that cause ear infections are wax buildup, upper respiratory infections, food allergies, environmental allergies, fetal alcohol syndrome, genetics, nutritional deficiencies and internal injuries. Infection in the ear often occurs in children causing pain in the ear, tugging at the ear, difficulty sleeping, headache, impaired response to sounds, high fever, fluidic discharge from the ear, vomiting, diarrhea, etc. Occurrence of ear infection calls for a medical consultation. However, there are some natural treatments that can provide immediate relief from the symptoms. Here are the top 7 remedies to treat ear infection.

Salt

This conveniently available remedy can provide immediate relief from pain. Take one cup of salt and heat it in a microwave, pan or double boiler for about three to five minutes. Pack the hot salt inside a thick cloth or sock and seal the open side with a rubber band or simple tie a knot. When it cools down to a tolerable level put the cloth on the affected ear for 5 to 10 minutes. Repeat this procedure as many times as needed. You could also put a cup of rice to use in the same manner.

Garlic

Known for its antimicrobial properties and natural pain relieving qualities, garlic is an effective remedy to treat ear infections. Make garlic oil by cooking two garlic cloves in two tablespoons of sesame oil or mustard oil until it turns blackish. After straining the solution let it cool down to a bearably hot temperature. Put two to four drops of this oil in the infected ear with a dropper.

Basil

Holy basil can be used to treat minor earaches and ear infections. Gently crush five fresh leaves of holy basil to extract the juice. Now apply this juice on or around the ear without letting the juice enter ear canal.

Apple Cider Vinegar

Fungus could also cause infection in the ear. So, to fight this kind of infection you could use apple cider vinegar. Mix one part of apple cider vinegar with an equal amount of water or alcohol. Take a cotton ball soaked in the solution and put it in your ear and let it remain for five minutes. After removing the cotton ball, lay in the opposite direction so the liquid from the ear drains out. You can also use a hair dryer to dry the ear properly.

Olive Oil

When the wax inside your ear catches some fungal or bacterial growth, it can lead to the blockage of Eustachian tubes causing infection. The blockage can be cleared with the help of olive oil. Warm some olive oil and put few drops into the infected ear. The warm oil will soften the wax. You can then remove the infected wax with ear-buds.

Warm Water Bottle

Giving some heat to the infected ear can relieve the pain quickly and can prevent micro-organism infection. Gently press a warm water bottle against the ear. Also, you can dip a clean washcloth in lukewarm water and after rinsing the excess water, place the wet cloth on the infected ear.

Onion

The most common ingredient in any dish cooked in Indian household, onion has medicinal uses too. Microwave one small chopped onion for two minutes. Let it cool down and then strain out the juice. Out two to three drops of this juice in the infected ear and let it remain for sometime. Lay in the opposite direction to drain out the remaining liquid in the ear.
