Ways to make your lipstick stay longer

Wearing lipstick is one thing, but making sure that it stays on is another thing altogether. Most times, we end up with only half the lipstick on our lips. That’s exactly why you need a few tips on how to make your lipstick last longer - much longer.

The perfect pout

We know you always wonder how do lipsticks in magazines always look glossy, shiny and perfectly applied. However, the bitter truth is models spend hours to achieve that perfect look, and it only lasts until the end of the shoot. In the real world, we want our lipstick to last through business days and date nights. Girls know how hard it is to keep lipstick in place because lips are always in motion. Every time you laugh, nibble, or sip, it wears away more of the pigment. Any lipstick lasts longer only when it is properly applied and maintained.

Get healthy lips

Lipstick cannot remain well on dry, chapped, or cracked lips. Because lips do not have oil-producing glands that form a protective barrier, they are more susceptible to damage caused by sun and wind. Licking on your lips may provide temporary relief from chapped lips but eventually it will make your lips drier. Apply a lip balm without sunscreen before going to bed. In the morning, use washcloth to rub the lips to get rid of the excess balm and chapped skin leaving the smooth surface for a neater lipstick application.

Start with bare lips

Balms and glosses may protect your lips from sun damage or dryness but they make a poor surface for lipstick. Hence, it is important that you remove oils from the lips with the help of a bloating paper to get a long lasting lipstick application.

Try a lip primer

Lip primers are applied before lip pencil, lipstick, or gloss. They are supposed to extend the life of a lipstick application and keep colour in place for long. Primers also help prevent movement of lipstick into fine lines around the mouth. Some people find them worth using while others find primers drying or uncomfortably waxy.

Use a lip pencil the right lay

Use of lip pencil before applying lipstick helps intensify the colour and makes it more durable. Some lip liners contain the same pigments as lipsticks, but the colour is suspended in a waxy pencil instead of a stick. Start at the centre of the lower lip and lightly fill in the entire surface. Repeat the same process on the top lip. Now use pencil in the middle of the lips instead of the edges to ensure colour intensity in the centre of the mouth. This way you can keep the telltale ring of lip liner from appearing as your lipstick fades.
