Keep your Lungs Healthy

Just like any other organ of your body, the lungs also need exercise to stay fit and function normally. Oxygen is vital for the body for its survival and the lungs perform the task of delivering oxygen to every part of the body. Therefore, to keep the rest of your organs functioning properly, your lungs must be in good health. Here are a few exercises that will help you increase the capacity of your lungs.

Aerobics

Aerobics can do a lot to enhance your lung capacity by making the large muscle group work at a rhythmic speed. Not only does it strengthen the heart and lungs, it also improves the body’s endurance levels.

Lung Strengthening Exercise

Exercises that tighten muscles are considered to be healthy for the upper body and lungs. Doing these exercises can strengthen the muscles that are used while breathing, improving lung functioning.

Water Exercises

Water is a source of resistance which makes your body work harder. The extra effort that you put in strengthens the lungs. Do weight lifting and stretching exercises in water and take quick breaths to feel the compression of the body.

Cardio Exercises

When you perform cardio, it multiplies your lung capacity. Spend at least 30 minutes doing cardio so that your body feels tired and pushes your lungs to work harder to supply oxygen.

High Elevation Workout

The amount of oxygen in the air decreases dramatically when you reach higher elevation from the ground. When you exercise on a higher altitude, your lungs have to work very hard to supply oxygen to the body, which in turn strengthens them.

Pushing Out

Pushing out is a breathing exercise which significantly increases lung capacity to breathe in oxygen. Stand in an upright position and loosen your knees. Now bend forward and push out all the air from your lungs. Get back to a standing position and breathe in air. Fill your lungs with maximum air and hold your breath for as long as you can. Extend your arm over the head and lower back to the starting position and exhale.

Rib Stretching

Stand upright and keep your back erect. Breathe out all the oxygen from your lungs. Now, start breathing slowly and hold in maximum air in your lungs. Hold your breath for 10-15 seconds before exhaling slowly. Perform this exercise at least three times a day.
