Salty foods

Processed foods, condiments and other foods with excess salt are bad for bones. These lead to excessive calcium excretion through the kidneys. Limit intake of salt so that you don’t lose calcium. Pizza, fries, rolls and sandwiches could be affecting your bones.

Sugary treats

Going overboard on sugar can have quite adverse effects on your bones. Excess sugar interferes with calcium absorption and also affects phosphorous levels. Limit candies, chocolates, cookies, cakes, sweets, doughnuts and other sweet foods.

Cola/ soda

Drink carbonated beverages every day weaken your bones, decreasing mineral density and increasing the risk of fracture. There are many other health concerns for which you will give up soda and consider fresh fruit juice.

Caffeinated beverages

The more caffeine you ingest, the weaker your bones get. Caffeine alone doesn’t affect bones, but there can be detrimental effects on bones when it combines with sugar.

Beans, also known as legumes, are loaded with nutrients. However, they can prevent your body from absorbing calcium owing to the presence of substances called phytates. Soaking beans in water for a few hours before cooking is one way to lower its phytate level.
