Hair Treatment for Dry Hair

Dry hair treatment involves warm oil massage, hair moisturising treatment, using a hair conditioner regularly and improving the diet.

You can try many techniques of dry hair treatment but the effectiveness of one would depend on your hair and scalp type. You hair becomes dry when its moisture and oil content is reduced. One of the functions of the skin on your scalp is to reproduce these oils naturally. But if that does not happen due to any reason, you need to take appropriate treatment.

Dry hair can be caused by mechanical damage such as throw blow dryer, environmental damage such as exposure to sun, chemical damage due to artificial colours and bleaches, and natural dryness.

Hair Treatments for Dry Hair

  • Condition your hair – If you are not used to conditioning your hair after shampooing, start it. You should condition your hair whether using shampoo or not, at least once every week. Choose those conditioners that do not contain alcohol as it dries your hair even more. Be particular about checking out the content of the conditioners that have fragrance, as they are more likely to be made from alcohol. Even mayonnaise can be used as an natural conditioner, which you should dry after applying and keeping intact for 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Warm oil massage – There is nothing more nourishing for your dry hair and scalp than a massage with warm coconut oil. You will first need to prepare a mixture of coconut oil mixed with four almonds and steam it in a pan. Apply on your hair roots and scalp. Cover your head with a shower cap or towel and leave it for half an hour. Shampoo your hair to remove the oil.
  • Hair moisturising treatment – You can make your dry hair silky by adding a mixture of 6 drops each of lavender, bay and sandalwood essential oils into 180 ml of sesame oil or soy oil. You need to be very accurate about this mixture to gain the best result. Part you hair in one-inch sections, and apply the mixture by using a cotton wad on the scalp. Cover your head in a towel so that the oils are enabled penetration into the skin. Shampoo twice to get rid of the remainder of the oil. This treatment can be also done using flaxseed oil as it is also a very good moisturiser.
  • Diet – To get healthy hair, you should take plenty of water; have diet rich in healthy proteins, fats, carbohydrates and vitamins such as A, C, E and calcium. Make this an essential part of your treatment for dry hair to get the best results out of other treatments.
