After hair transplant, it takes around one year to have a proper hair growth. The amount and rate of hair growth post transplant varies from individual to individual.

Hair growth after hair transplantation varies from person to person. Generally the hair growth is observed within 6 to 12 months.

Hair growth doesn’t occur uniformly on both the sides of your head. Generally it lags behind on one side or the other. There is also some amount of hair loss in and around the area of a hair transplant. After hair transplant hair growth occurs according the following timeline:

Hair transplant stages of growth

1- 6 days post-operation

Post transplant for 1 week you can experience mild swelling in the forehead. Also you can experience mild blood clots and redness on the area of surgery.

10-14 days post-operation

Staples are generally removed after 10-14 days after the surgery. Shedding of hair can be seen approximately three weeks after the surgery. It is a very normal thing to happen.

1-3 months post-operation

Within 1-3 months you will see few new hair strands coming through the surface of the scalp. The new hair may not grow evenly but it will all grow eventually. At first you will observe a very thin hair growth, but it gets thicken as the time progresses. During this you can see some acne like formation near the recipient area. It is temporary and is a positive sign of new growth.

Hair transplant stages of growth

5-6 months post-operation

After 5-6 months of the procedure new hair growth can be seen. This is around two to three inches in length. The hair stem gets thicken with the time.

8-10 months post-operation

You can see impressive results within 8-10 months after the transplantation. Much thicker and longer hair is observed as compared with the hair just after the transplantation.

1 year post-operation

You can see full results 1 year after the transplantation. There is some textural change in the transplanted hair. The new hair may become more crinkled than the earlier hair or it can grow wiry. Often the luster of the hair also gets diminished.

Hair growth after hair transplantation is a gradual process. Rate of hair growth after hair transplant varies from person to person, so don’t get disheartened if you don’t see any rapid hair growth. It takes time to get natural hair growth.
