Choosing a vegetarian diet is one of the ways to be stress free and happy, according to a recent research. The findings of the research are that meat and fish are rich in AA or archidonic acid. This is an omega fatty acid that is found only in animal source of foods such as meat. Previous research has shown that high levels of AA in food can cause certain changes in the brain that disturbs one’s mood.
One of the reasons for this is that the meat that comes from grain fed animals has an acid profile that is five times higher than the same for meat that comes from grass-fed animal’s meat. Earlier it was thought that fish eaters are better off than meat eaters of other animals because of some compound found in fish that counters the bad effects of AA. This is because of the higher proportion of omega-3 fatty acids as compared to omega 6 acid in fish.
But some reports clearly suggested that compared to the vegetarians, even the fish eaters suffer from bad mood. In order to make a comprehensive analysis, 39 participants of the study were divided into 3 groups who were put on different diets. The first group ate fish and meat daily; the second group ate fish 3 to 4 times a week while the third group stuck to strictly vegetarian diet. The mood scores of the vegetarian group improved drastically compared to the other two.
After two weeks of vegetarian diet, the participants showed much lesser levels of AA and other stress inducing components in their body. Contrary to what was expected, even the fish eating group showed that their omega fatty acids were heavily skewed towards omega 6 rather than omega 3. In order to include more of omega 3’s into the diet, some of the recommended vegetarian foods were chia seeds, cauliflower, hemp seed purslane.
This research has proved that vegetarian diet helps you to stay free from stress and be happy. The fatty acids that the vegetarian diet contains are healthier than that in the animal diet. Fatty acids are the building blocks of protein. So, effectively this research has shown that protein obtained through a vegetarian diet is a much healthier one as it beats your stress along with building the muscles.
