Gatsbying? The new millennial dating trend to do with social media

Have you been posting new pictures regularly on your social media accounts to get your crush’s attention? Then this article is for you.

Have you been posting new pictures regularly on your social media accounts to get your crush’s attention? You tend to do get their attention on social media when you know that talking to them directly is of no use or they might reciprocate with the same feelings. The fear of getting rejected sometimes brings out the millennial in us and we try to grab their attention in whatever way we can. Social media is one platform that can help you grab their attention without actually telling them about your feelings.

If you have been doing this lately, then this means that you have been gatsbying. Do you remember the book “The Great Gatsby”, wherein Jay Gatsby throws lavish parties to get Daisy’s (the love of her life) attention or perhaps the movie starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Carey Mulligan? If this rings a bell then you have come to the right place to understand what you have been doing lately.

The new millennial trend called Gatsbying is when you post something online with the intention of attracting the one person you really like (a crush or someone you are dating).

Are you Gatsbying?

After posting something online for 5 minutes, you become restless to know if your crush has seen it or not, or liked it – then my friend, you are gatsbying. The constant urge to know how actively is the person you like looking at your posts is also a part of gatsbying. It is easy to understand and almost everyone is guilty of doing this. So, don’t worry even if you are.

Other Ways to get your Crush’s Attention

We all do something or the other to get that special someone’s attention to make sure that they know we exist. Follow these tips to grab the attention that you have been eyeing for a long time.

Look your best

Looking your best should be on your list all the time, just not for someone else but also for your own self. Be real to who you are and rock it. Wear a normal tee, a pair of jeans and shoes if that what defines you – do not wear a dress just because you want someone’s attention. Being you is the most important thing when it comes to relationships. Remember that a lie has a short life, but truth lives on forever.

Confidence is the key

When you are confident and comfortable with who you are, then he or she will definitely notice you. And he will like it. The most attractive thing about a person is their confidence.  Also, keep in mind to look in their eyes when you talk to them. Do not appreciate the surrounding beauty when you should be appreciating them.

Smile more

When we see someone, their smile is something we notice first. If you have a genuine smile that can brighten someone’s day, then he/she will also like it and notice you. So smile more!

Just hang out together

Make excuses to hang out together – choose them as your lab partner, in office, you can ask for their help and start a conversation on the same topic. Do not go all creepy on them and look at them continuously or end up at their desk unexpectedly.

DO NOT Stalk

Not being creepy brings us to stalking. Do not stalk your crush and kill your chances to ever see him or her again. As tempting as it is, hold the urge and instead go talk to them directly – less creepy, more productive.
