A study at the Deakin University’s Australian Centre on Quality of Life claims that newlyweds are unhappiest in their first year of marriage. It has debunked the myth of 'honeymoon period', suggesting that many couples suffer from post-nuptial depression during the first year of their marriage.

The study measured the happiness of 2000 people on a scale of 0 to 100. The Australians scored 75 on average. Couples in their first year of marriage had an average rating of 73.9, while people who have had 40 years of wedded bliss scored 79.8.

Unstable first year is primarily due to coming to terms with disconnect between fantasy and reality, who you thought you were going to marry and the actual person you ended up marrying.

People assume that their wedding as the best thing ever happened. But, don't be surprised if your marriage is a little rocky during the first year.
