The first symptoms of swine flu are quite similar to that of the seasonal flu. These symptoms of swine flu must be given due consideration for controlling the disease at the very first stage and also to prevent other people from cathcing infection

Swine flu is an infectious disease that is caused by the swine influenza virus. This virus spreads from person-to-person i.e. when an infected person coughs or sneezes, the virus that is present in the mucus, travels through air and infects people within its range. The first symptoms of swine flu are very much similar to the seasonal flu. The early symptoms of swine flu include:

  • High temperature.
  • Unusual tiredness.
  • Headache and fatigue.
  • Runny or stuffy nose.
  • Cough, Sore throat and chills.
  • Shortness of breath or cough.
  • Loss of appetite.
  • Body aches.
  • Diarrhoea or vomiting.

If you or any other member of your family has a high fever i.e. over 38C/100.4F accompanied by two or more of the above stated symptoms then it can be swine flu.  Some of the signs of swine flu in children include flu-like symptoms, such as fever with rashes, problem in breathing, gray or bluish skin, severe and constant vomiting. Your child may not interact much and will become irritable as well.

Even though the initial symptoms of swine flu are not intense enough to distinguish it from the regular flu but in the later stage it will be more severe. A person with these symptoms must take immediate medical help. The symptoms that appear in later stages of swine flu along with the other flu-like symptoms include:

  • Sudden confusion and dizziness.
  • Pain in chest or abdomen.
  • Severe as well as persistent vomiting.
  • Worsened cough and fever.
  • Shortness of breath.
  • Difficulty in breathing.
  • Pneumonia.
