Exercising helps Teens Score Better in Academics

According to a new research, teenagers who exercise for 60 minutes every day can increase their academic performance by one full grade.

A new research found out that intensive exercising improved a teenager’s scope of doing performing better during examinations.

Exercising benefits for teensFor the research, about 5,000 children participated and it was found that there was an increase in performance for every extra 17 minutes that boys exercised, and about 12 minutes for girls.


The authors of this study that was done by the University of Strathclyde and Dundee found that it could help them identify gender differences in the impact of physical activities on the brain. The study found that those children who did regular exercise not only did better in academics  at the age of 11 but also at the age of 13 and 16.


The study found that on an average, most teenagers’ exercise levels were below the recommended 60 minutes per day. The authors later speculated the possibility of a better academic performance if they got the children to perform their recommended amount.


The study claimed that while it was evident that children improved their performance by a quarter of a grade by doing exercises for 15 minutes , exercising for 60 minutes every day improves academic performance by a full grade i.e. from a C to a B.
