Exercises reduce fatigue in Cancer Patients

Regular walking and cycling is beneficial to cancer patients.

The treatment of cancer is a long and tiring process which often leads to host of other problems in the patients. One of the most common problems that occur after cancer treatment is fatigue.

The researchers at the University of the West England in Bristol have discovered that exercises such as walking and cycling might boost the energy levels in the patients post cancer treatment.

The study which analysed the relation between exercise and cancer related fatigue in more than 4000 adults found that regular aerobic exercises significantly lower down the fatigue in cancer patients.

It also suggested that exercises are essential in dealing with fatigue during all stages of cancer.

According to Fiona Cramp, MD, Faculty of Health and Life Sciences, University of the West of England, aerobic exercises such as cycling and walking are more beneficial compared to the other forms of exercises like yoga and resistance training.

More importantly, the evidence of improvement was found largely in patients with breast cancer.

The study also appealed for a greater need for improvement in modern day lifestyle.
