The excessive blood sugar level in your blood can lead to several health problems. Exercise can lessen your blood glucose level but you need to follow some guidelines to perform such physical activity safely. Exercise Therapy in Type 2 Diabetes


The exercises for type 2 diabetics should include cardiovascular workouts as well as some strength training sessions. Some flexibility exercises should also be included in these workouts. If you have been sedentary before being diagnosed with diabetes, it is important that you gradually work your level up to full strength workouts.

A recommended schedule for you is to have three to four cardio workout sessions in a week that last for 20 minutes to an hour. Include two strength training workout, and make sure that all of your major muscle groups are exercised. Your workouts should have 10-15 repetitions. Monitoring blood glucose during and after exercise


For type 2 diabetics, it is important that the blood sugar levels are kept in check all the time. When exercising, there are increased risks of certain complications. To ensure that you are guarded from those, measure your blood glucose half an hour before starting your exercise session. If your blood sugar is below the level of 100 mg/dl, you need to drop the idea of working out. Instead, have a snack to replenish your level of carbohydrates. The safe range of blood sugar for type 2 diabetics is between 100 to 250 mg/dl. If you find your blood sugar level to be above this, and also that there is presence of ketones in your urine, exercising can lead to serious complications. If your sugar level is above 300 mg/dl, it is a serious contraindication for allowing exercise. Wait till it drops to the normal range. Blood sugar needs to be monitored right after exercising too.
