Folic Acid Deficiency, also known as Folate Deficiency occurs when your body does not have enough folic acid or Vitamin B9. Folic acid is an essential nutrient which is needed by human body to maintain healthy blood cells and to make and repair DNA.
Most people get enough folic acid from a regular healthy diet, but a deficiency may occur due to poor dietary habits or if your body is having trouble absorbing Folate. Folate deficiency may occur if you are not including foods containing folic acid in your diet, such as green leafy vegetables and citrus juices. It can also be caused due to some diseases which hamper the absorption of folic acid in the body or due to excessive consumption of alcohol, which also limits folate absorption by the body.
