Coffee better than energy drinks to enhance physical and cognitive performance.
Energy drinks, purported to provide mental or physical stimulation, aren’t better than coffee. Caffeine is the only effective performance-boosting ingredient in energy drinks, suggests a new research.
A study published in the Nutrition Review journal states that key ingredients of energy drinks such as taurine, guarana and ginseng may not boost performance. However, generous dose of caffeine in energy drinks contributes to the enhancement of physical and cognitive performance.
Caffeine content is also a hidden problem with energy drinks, which can reach toxic levels up to 14 times greater than in other soft drinks. Over the years, several researches has linked caffeine to various medical problems such as seizures, diabetes, heart problems and behavioural disorders.
