Eat White Meat to Reduce Risk of Liver Cancer

A recent study, which studied the link between eating white meat and risk of hepatocellular carcinoma, claims that intake of white meat and fish can reduce the risk of liver cancer.

Meat Reduces Risk Of CancerA recent study has suggested that eating white meat like poultry or fish may decrease the risk of developing liver cancer.

The relationship between meat consumption and risk of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) was studied by the researchers.

The researchers analyzed the studies that were published between 1956 and 2013. It was found during the analyses that eating white meat or fish may reduce the risk of developing liver cancer by 31 per cent and 22 per cent, respectively.

However, eating red meat, processed meat or total meat was found not to be related with liver cancer risk.

In the study published in the journal Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, the researchers wrote "the present meta-analysis indicates that a high level of white meat or fish consumption can reduce the risk of HCC significantly, while intake of red meat, processed meat or total meat is not associated with HCC risk".

They added "our findings suggest that dietary intervention may be a promising approach for prevention of HCC, which still need to be confirmed by further well-designed prospective studies and experimental research".
