Does Menopause cause Divorce

Menopause is an inevitable stage of a woman’s life. However, how far the woman would want to start a life of their own leaving their husbands behind depends on the hormonal changes in the body of the woman. During menopause and before it, almost every woman undergoes certain drastic chemical and hormonal changes in the body which affects the way they think logically and instinctually. The most obvious end-results of it are depression, anxiety and mood swings. These actions however, are not intended but can often lead to a marital separation as the spouse might fail to incorporate these changes in their life.

Menopause can be one of the causes for divorce. However, it cannot be the sole cause for separation between couples. Researchers have concluded that the female hormone known as oestrogen is the processor and the regulator of the temperament of the woman which indirectly goes a long way in helping her relationships. This often regulates the way women think while approaching menopause along with their way of communication. Usually, a woman by now tends to overcome the maternal instincts and looks forward to ways of pleasing herself, in a way, preparing herself for new challenges in life.

Also, women being more sensitive to their immediate environment during this phase, tend to respond fiercely to stress caused by the opposite sex which includes infidelity or verbal arguments. In addition to this, extreme cases of depression can be a possible cause for divorce. The worst possible scenario is when women pile on their emotional frailty that resurfaces in case of pressure situations. Such cases can lead to divorces.
