Does having gestational diabetes put one at higher risk for diabetes in the future?

Once you’ve had gestational diabetes, the chance of you having it again in any future pregnancy is increased.

If you are diagnosed with gestational diabetes go for regular follow ups to your physician after your baby is born to screen for signs of diabetes. Many women with gestational diabetes develop diabetes within a few years after delivery. The risk is probably higher in obese women. You can reduce the risk of developing diabetes by maintaining an ideal weight, eating healthy food and doing exercises regularly.
